Ask Dr. Mom

Q: Hi Dr. Mom,

Could using CBD cause me to fail a drug test?

Sincerely,

Sober Saint

Drug tests do not test positive for CBD, however, trace amounts of THC can be detected. To be completely sure you will not fail the drug test, you must find out what percentage of THC is the minimum amount detected based on the drug test your employer uses. Most UDTs (urinary drug tests) have a cut off of 50 ng/mL, which means that 5.0 x 10^-8 g of THC per 1 mL must be present in your urine to test positive.

Not all CBD products are created equal-- which is why it is important to carefully select the product that you are using. A regulated product should indicate the amount of THC present, which is generally indicated as below 1%. If this is the case, you should not test positive for THC unless you are ingesting 1 g of CBD or more per day. The average daily dose of CBD is between 150-220 mg.

If you are concerned about the product you are using, consider synthetically derived CBD products. These products will have 0% THC present in the product.

Good luck,

Q: Hi Dr. Mom,

What percentage of CBD oil would you recommend for 7 year old with anxiety

Sincerely,

Jen

A seven year old that has anxiety?

I would not recommend giving a seven year old CBD unless this was the last line of treatment.

However, if you were to give a child CBD for anxiety, I would recommend a dose of 20 mg three times a day, which would be 60 mg in total.

Every bottle should say how many milligrams of CBD there is per mL. Generally, bottles contain anywhere from 60-80 mg of CBD per mL. Other than that, you can cut out simple sugars from this kids' diet and supplement other things for two weeks and see what happens.

Change juice for water and add a small amount of Vitamin D (2000 iu per day) as a supplement.

Good luck,

Q: Hi Dr. Mom,

I am looking for a CBD oil that will help give an appetite,

Thank you!

Nellie

Technically, CBD doesn't incite the same appetite increase that THC does because it doesn't work directly on the CB1 receptor. However, when taken as a supplement regularly it can help bring the gut into balance and increase appetite for a multitude of reasons.

Good luck,

Dr. Mom
